Description
The original structure of Borgo San Cono, a typical aristocratic Sicily country home, dates back to the 17th century. Additional wings were added over the centuries to make the home larger and more comfortable, while maintaining its features as a fortified stronghold dominating the vast surrounding estate of around 50 hectares planted with citrus and olive trees. This continued up to the early 20th century when the home achieved its current appearance.
The long driveway, shaded by olive, almond and oak trees, immediately transmits the sensation of charm and tranquillity that is a feature of Borgo San Cono.
The extensive grounds contain plenty of surprises, from the magnificent vegetation to the ruins of an ancient Byzantine convent, which has been excavated in recent years by German and Austrian archaeologists. There is also an ancient farm building, the sheepcote, where ricotta and cheese are still produced today, as well as plenty of corners where you can relax and enjoy a magnificent sea view over the Aeolian Islands and the explosion of colours of the luxuriant nature that the estate is blessed with.
In the grounds, near the house, is a magnificent swimming pool (12 x 6 m) with 3 characteristic jets that continually emit water and that rests on a large panoramic terrace, which is elegantly furnished and enhanced by two shady gazebos.
On the other side, beyond the house, another large panoramic terrace is a counterpoint to the terrace in the upper part of the garden.
The villa has 2 floors. The reception rooms are on the ground floor, with a typical kitchen decorated with period majolica tiles and one bedroom with an en suite bathroom.
A lovely wrought iron staircase leads to the upper floor where there are 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
Although Borgo San Cono preserves its appeal as an ancient country house, it is comfortably furnished and has all the accessories you need for a pleasant, relaxing stay, surrounded by the charm of the Sicilian countryside but also near the sea: the magnificent beaches of Capo D’Orlando and Sant’Agata are less than a 10 minute drive away.

Surroundings
Borgo San Cono is situated in Torrenova, which is centrally located as regards Messina and Palermo. It is therefore a great base for exploring North-Eastern and North-Western Sicily, Taormina, the Alcantara Gorges and Cefalù, but there are also plenty of interesting things to see in the nearby surrounding area, like San Marco D'Alunzio (an ancient village set high upon a hill) Fragalà Abbey, the magnificent Nebrodi Park, the Tindari Sanctuary, Santo Stefano di Camastra (the village of ceramics) and Sant’Angelo di Brolo and Floresta, which are famous for their culinary traditions.
The Aeolian Islands can also be easily reached by a hydrofoil that leaves from Sant'Agata di Militello, a village just 10 minutes from the villa.
Day trips to the Aeolian Islands by motor yacht or days of sports fishing can be organised in Summer and deckchairs and beach umbrellas can be reserved at the beach concessions in Capo D'orlando.
Jeep tours can be organised all year round in the Nebrodi Park and the beautiful Catafurco waterfalls, as well as carriage rides in the park or trips to the lovely Marinello nature reserve.
The Aeolian Islands can also be easily reached by a hydrofoil that leaves from Sant'Agata di Militello, a village just 10 minutes from the villa.

Good to know
The thick walls, which are typical of old buildings, and a good level of ventilation mean that the inside of the villa is pleasantly cool even at the height of Summer. In any case the villa is also equipped with air conditioning ( except two of the bedrooms)
