Description
In Sicilian dialect “Mannera” is a sheepcote and this villa has been sensitively restored to retain traces of its original use: the large courtyard enclosed by a wall, today a delightful Zen garden, was once used as a sheepfold; the large canopied areas, now elegant outdoor spaces, were probably used to shelter the sheep during bad weather; and the rooms where the shepherds would have lived, have been converted into practical and comfortable bedrooms.
This minimalist renovation perfectly combines simple elegance and practicality, further enhanced by the judicious use of traditional rustic objects and family furniture.
The villa is surrounded by an enormous garden ( 5 Hectares), and is part of the Vendicari nature reserve, lying just a short distance from the famous bay of “Cala Mosca”. The Sicilian Baroque towns of Noto, Modica and Ragusa Ibla – all of them denoted World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, are close by, as are the fascinating seaside villages of Marzamemi and Portopalo, with their tuna fisheries, warehouses and traditional fishermen’s homes.
