Madonie Nature Park - an area of almost 40 thousand hectare just 1 hour east of Palermo - unveils an unspoilt and little known microcosm of Sicily, with a spectacular nature, high peaks, valleys and rivers, hills and medieval towns as well as art and gastronomy.
The flora plays a leading role in the Park. This botanical paradise, with peaks reaching 1.979 meters of height, houses more than the half of the 2.600 Sicilian species and about 150 of the 200 endemic species. The most important one is the Abies Nebrodensis, with 29 specimens.
The fauna is characterized by the 65% of the nesting birds and by all the mammals which can be found in Sicilia.
The Park is also well-known for its interesting geological aspects and its landscape.
It is possible to admire wonderful landscapes of Sicily from several points, such as Mount Etna, the Nebrodi Mountains, and the Aeolian Islands, unforgettable and almost surreal views at dawn or sunset.
Horse riding in the Madonie is a well established tradition, and it offers unforgettable experiences whatever the season, from the winter snows to the verdant green of the woods and pastures, from the yellow, bright time of the harvest to the breathtaking views of the blue sea.
In this case there is something more, as we invite visitors to discover this part of Sicily horse riding (or learning to ride) western style.
In fact, Terra Vecchia Farmhouse is one of the first riding centres in Italy in this kind of discipline.
Set at 1000 mts, right in the heart of the Park, Terravecchia farmhouse is a delightful place to stay and the perfect starting point for exploring on horseback the many beauties of Madonie Mountains.
