Anyone seeking the tranquility of a small town, while having the sea and Taormina a few kilometres away.

Description

Villa I Notabili is located in the enchanting Val d’Agro, in the splendid little town of Savoca, 15 kilometres from Taormina. Savoca is famous as the location of many major films, and in 2008 was added to the list of the ‘most beautiful towns in Italy’.
The villa has been recently reconstructed, and lies in the historic centre, close to the most important of the town’s monuments and medieval piazzas.
The villa is on three levels: the ground floor is open-plan, with a sitting area around a fireplace, a dining space, and a marvellous, and fully equipped kitchen, all looking onto a spacious terrace with magnificent views over the Val D’Agro to the Ionian sea. There is an ample area set aside for barbecues with a dining table, and a breakfast area sheltered by a portico. A typical stone staircase leads up to the next floor, with three bedrooms and bathrooms. The villa is furnished with a tasteful blend of modern design pieces and itmes from private collections.

Surroundings

Savoca occupies a twin peak 300 metre above sea level, high above the Ionian coast in the province of Messina. Close by is the resort of Santa Teresa di Riva. Savoca is one of Sicily’s most important and beautiful medieval towns, as witnessed by its insertion in 2008 in the list of ‘the most beautiful towns in Italy’. Savoca is famous for the crypts in which you can see the embalmed bodies of 18th and 19th century aristocrats, and as one of the locations of Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘The Godfather’.
Close by is the dramatic, river-forged Alcantara Gorge, whose icy waters the adventurous can explore by wading or by raft.
Also of interest is the little medieval town of Forza D’Agro, clinging to a hilltop below a 16th-century castle. Taormina too, is a short drive away, with its world-famous Greek theatre, and splendid palaces and churches.
Sports: tennis and golf ( 30 km) accessibile by car.
At Castiglione di Sicilia, below the slopes of Etna, Il Picciolo Golf club (18 hole)

Good to know

Welcome service from 8.30am-12.30pm
Lows: The villa is a typical village house with small rooms distrubuted over several floors. The medieval streets of Savoca are narrow, and difficult to navigate in a large car! No internet.
Highs: fine furniture, splendid views, absolute tranquility
