Description

Villa La Pomice (‘Pomice’ in Italian is pumice, the stone widely found on the Island of Lipari) is located in an upland area of Pianogreca, about 2km from the centre of Lipari.
Its position means that is has a splendid view and is pleasantly cool, while the atmospheric infinity pool overlooking this setting and the luxuriant Mediterranean garden surrounding it (tended by a renowned Sicilian landscape gardener) make it a little corner of paradise.
Villa la Pomice has two separate buildings, both of which have two floors.
On the entrance floor of the main villa is a comfortable, cosy lounge with a fireplace, a lovely kitchen, a dining room with large windows that look out onto the splendid landscape and a guest bathroom. A large patio surrounds all the rooms. There is also an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and wood-burning stove and an atmospheric open-air dining area for Summer evenings.
A staircase descends to the 2 bedrooms, one of which is a double bedroom with a large bathroom and shower and the other a convertible twin room with a private bathroom. Both rooms have direct access to the garden, where the swimming pool and shower are located in a slightly more private area.

The second building, close to the main building, also has two floors. There is a large suite and bathroom with a spacious terrace and a double bedroom on the first floor and a patio and bathroom on the same level as the garden. Both buildings have satellite TV.
The more energetic among you can take a 15-minute walk from the villa along an old mule track, to the delightful beach at Valle Muria.

Surroundings

Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands, and home to the only true town in the archipelago. It is also at the hub of the ferry and hydrofoil services, and so has the best connections of any of the islands. The main town, Lipari, is a bustling place dominated by a rocky acropolis which retains the remains of a castle (used as a prison for political exiles under Mussolini) and the Museo Archeologico, with an astonishing collection of archeological finds from the islands and the coast of nearby Sicily. Highlights are the unique ancient Greek vases painted in an array of delicate pastels by an artist known simply as the Lipari Painter, and a collection of minature ancient Greek theatre masks discovered in tombs.
Although Lipari is no longer an active volcano, there are still plenty of relics of its volcanic origins to be seen: cliffs seamed with shiny obsidian, mountainsides and beaches of pumice; hot springs; smouldering sulphuruous fumeroles; and a kaolin quarry where the volcanic minerals have stained the clay in an array of colours thought to have been used as pigments by the Lipari painter. Lipari has some lovely walks – one of the finest runs from the kaolin quarry to the Terme di San Calogero, a thermal bath with Roman origins.

Good to know

The path leading to the sea (Valle Muria beach) is a little country trail that is suitable for people who walk these kinds of trails regularly.
Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian islands, so a car is essential.
The villa does not have A/C but its position on the hill means that it is always cool, especially in the evenings, in any case all bedrooms have a ceiling fan

Pool open from 2th of June to 14th of September

in the living there is a decoder sky
