Surroundings
San Saba is an old maritime village on the coast to the north of Messina, set on the splendid Tyrrhenian riviera between Punta Faro and Capo Milazzo. What makes San Saba unusual is that it lies between the unspoilt wilderness of the Peloritani mountains and the crystalline waters of the Tyrrhenian sea, making it an ideal choice for anyone who loves both sea and mountains and who wants to escape the chaos of the city.
The sea at San Saba was awarded a Goletta Verde by the Lega Ambiente, Italy’s foremost ecological movement, and is among the cleanest in Northern Sicily.
This part of the Tyrrhenian sea is one of the richest fishing grounds in the Mediterrenean, making San Saba an ideal place for anyone who loves fishing.
At Capo Rosocolmo, in the extreme west of the village, rise the famous mountains of sand, consisting of small rocky promontories covered in sand blown by the winter winds. They are easy to climb, and there are great views from the top.
You could make excursions to the Lakes of Ganzirri, Milazzo, the sanctuary of Tindari and the Marinello natural park, Taormina, Etna and, of course, the Aeolian Islands.
