Description
This big 19th century villa is set in Marsala and overlooks the Stagnone lagoon, just 800 metres from the little pier from which boats to the archeological site of Motya leave.
The villa has been entirely restored and still keeps – both inside and outside – the charm of the past. When restoring it, the owners used traditional building techniques and were careful to re-use original materials, such as old majolica tiles whenever possible. The villas is still furnished with many pieces of original furniture.
Spagnola is divided in two main parts – one of them is still under restoration.
The villa can sleep a maximum of 18 people and is divided in many levels, all of them linked by an huge antique staircase. It is surrounded by a lovely Mediterranean style garden, with a parterre and a large courtyard at the entrance. A wonderful avenue bordered with miniature columns leads to the old Coffehouse and to other secluded spots, where you can imagine the guests of long ago coming to chat and gossip, as they watched the play of water on the old majolica fountain set in the centre.
The old cistern, formerly used for irrigating the garden, has been transformed into a small pool, where guests can cool down on hot days. As well as many citrus trees, there is a kitchen garden from which you can get seasonal produce.
Just outside the villa gates is an old pier from where you can swim in the shallow sea water of the Stagnone.
4 extra beds can be added by renting the cottage, which has an independent entrance
