Description
The villa takes its name from the stretch of coast on which it stands, mid-way between the cities of Catania and Siracusa. Although part of a ‘Residence’ or small holiday complex, Villa Saracena is completely independent, surrounded by a garden set on two levels, and features a fantastic private circular seawater swimming pool. From the elegant living room, which has one wall made entirely of glass, there are panoramic views stretching along the coast to Mount Etna, particularly unforgettable at sunset, when you can watch the colours of Etna changing with the light, against the red sky and the deep blue sea. From the villa’s garden a flight of steps runs down to a small pebble beach, accessibile only to guests of Villa Saracena and two neighbouring villas.

Villa Saracena is within easy driving distance of all the major sites of eastern Sicily: Siracusa, with its astonishing ancient Greek, medieval and Baroque monuments Noto, considered the most beautiful of Sicily’s Baroque towns, and a UNESCO heritage site. Nearby are the small Baroque town of Avola, the prehistoric site of Castelluccio, the Greek city of Eloro, the enchanting coastal nature reserve of Vendicari, and the typical fishing villages of Marzamemi and Portopalo with their traditional stone-built tonnara, where tuna used to be processed. Highs: panoramic views, swimming pool, large garden, direct access to the sea Lows: only one bathroom; access via a Residence Although the villa can comfortably sleep 5, the fact that there is only one fully-equipped bathroom makes it more suitable for 2 or 4 guests. The access to the Residence, however, also has advantages: a porter controls access during the summer months, and there is a grocery shop, a bar and restaurant/pizzeria on site. Access to the beach is limited to guests of Villa Saracena and two other neighbouring villas.
