Built between 1174 and 1176 during Guglielmo II’s reign after the Madonna had appeared to him by Arabian architects. Famous for the ever so large surface covered by Byzantine mosaics (second after Santa Sofia in Istanbul) where gold reigns, realized by Venetian and Sicilian artists. Christian teachings can be directly transmitted through vision. Access to the terraces with an amazing panoramic view of the Palermo golden bay.
